2019 Horror Challenge #11: Dario Argento’s Opera

Opera

For the eleventh watch of my horror challenge, I chose 1987s Opera from Dario Argento. And here’s our synopsis:

A young opperata is stalked by a deranged fan bent on killing the people associated with her to claim her for himself.

So, I’ve been noted other places, including probably my challenge reviews, that Italian horror has been a blind spot of mine since last year, but I’ve worked on changing that. And man, this one is up at the top. What a movie! Great kills, great soundtrack, with a nice mix of 80s and 70s Giallo feel.

Did I mention this kills? Fantastic.

I’m by no means a giant Argento fan like some; I actually prefer the older Bava stuff when it comes to Italian horror. But from my limited watches, this is easily in my top three, with Bird With the Crystal Plummage being my favorite, but this is easily #2.

My Rating: 7.75/10
