Brightburn

Evil Superman movie coming from a whole bunch of people with the last name of Gunn? I was in right from the getgo.

Brightburn stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman (Roy from The Office), Jackson Dunn as Brandon, and rounded out with some other good additions to the cast.

As for what it’s about: I don’t think I need to spend tons of time on this, but baby crash lands to Earth, discovers he has powers, and things go crazy from there; if you haven’t read my other reviews, I try to keep them as vague as possible as I hate spoilers.

So, on to my thoughts here: I had a blast with this one. I wasn’t looking for perfection here, and just fun. And it checked that box. Good performances, well shot, good score, good effects, and some really fun kills. It reminded me of the fun I had watching another favorite from Gunn (Slither), but this is a little more serious and better-produced.

Surprisingly, there were a few heartfelt moments in the film as well especially for people with kids (such as myself). I won’t give them away, but I got a little emotional during a few scenes because of having kids of my own.

Brightburn

Not getting the hate about this movie, because it was fun. I think people, and a minority of people, have incredibly unrealistic expectations. While I do think those people are the minority, they typically have the loudest voices and we hear their opinions the most, unfortunately…

I had fun, and that’s all I was looking for. This is the kind of movie I’m willing to watch again in the future too. I love my doom-filled atmospheric films, most of which I will only watch once or twice ever, but films that pack a little more enjoyment like this will get put on more at my house.

7.75/10
