16 Apr Review: 2019s Pledge
I’d heard Pledge mentioned by several people as an early 2019 watch, and I usually try and avoid paying for VOD stuff early in a hope for free streaming later; I’m happy to pay for things, and do all the time. Pledge finally popped up on Hulu, so watched it last night.
Man, I loved this. As with all of my new reviews, I’ll keep them vague as not to spoil for anyone.
Great film length, good pacing, some really nice shots and scoring at different parts of the movie. I did find myself becoming incredibly frustrated with some of the decisions, and really wanting to know what would happen after the end of the movie, so those are all signs that I was engaged in the viewing. This felt like a well-produced low-budget film, which is usually what I’m asking to see. I come across a lot of films that have potential, but the production value is so low that I can’t even engage even though I may dig what they’re working with.
This one nailed that.
I’ll probably revisit this one in the future as well. Well done.
